Hemigraphis Repanda or Ruellia Repanda is also known as Dragon’s Breath,Narrow leaf Hemigraphis, Dragon’s Tongue etc.,
Hemigraphis Repanda or Dragon’s Breath native to Malaysia and India is a creeping, evergreen perennial herb with narrow spear shaped, crinkled texture, nearly purplish tooth shaped leaves and somewhat burgundy beneath which can grow up to 2” long.
Hemigraphis Repanda can reach up to 8” in height.Its colorful leaf structure and color and the lovely white to pink flower contrast makes the plant attractive.
Dragon’s Breath grows well outdoors with part sunlight and it needs fertile, well drained and moist soil.
Watering once in two days is quiet sufficient for well establish plants and daily watering for new plants for a couple of weeks recommended. Watering in the morning is advised so that the plants foliage has enough time to dry through the day.
Fertilize them to encourage blooming. You can prune them to maintain desired shape and size. You can pinch back to stimulate new growth, to make them dense and bushy and pinching encourages more flowers. Remove old flower heads to keep the plant look healthy and it also prevent early seed setting.
These delicate beauties make it an excellent choice for ground cover and borders. It can also be an excellent hanging basket plant and an ideal plant especially in mixed color container garden.
Propagation is through stem cuttings.
