Iresine lindenii or Blood leaf or Beet root plant is a tender perennial grown mainly for their colorful foliage. Beet root plant’s foliage is egg shaped, 2-4 inches long with deep or light red veins on red to burgundy colored leaves. Blood red are fast growing, bushy and sun loving. They do pretty well in semi shade too but its vibrant bright red display is generally obtained in stronger light. Well drained loamy or clay soil is recommended.
Iresine lindenii requires normal watering to be watered till the soil is completely drenched and in pots water them until excess water runs out the bottom of the pot. Fertilize them once in two weeks during the growing period and once in 4 months is enough for full grown plant. You can pinch its tips to encourage bushy growth.
They occasionally produce small greenish to white flowers which are not significant and you can pinch them off.
If you have Blood leaf Indoor see to it you transplant them into a larger container periodically, or they become pot/root-bound and their growth is retarded.
Iresine lindenii adds contrast to beds and borders.
